Atlanta’s Must-See Thanksgiving Events

Whether you’re visiting family or friends in Atlanta this Thanksgiving or you’re a seasoned local, there are more than enough holiday events to keep you busy through the weekend. The following are a few of the most exciting events you can take part in over the holiday.

Atlanta Half Marathon, Thanksgiving Day 5K, Mashed Potato Mile and Gravy Gallop

Burn a few calories before you head to the dinner table by participating in one of these runs at Turner Field. If you can’t wake up early enough to run the half marathon or 5K yourself, show up later to cheer on your friends.

Kids can participate too, so sign your 7-12 year old up for the Mashed Potato Mile, or get your youngster involved in the Gravy Gallop – a 50-meter dash for kids under 6 years old.

Garden Lights: Holiday Nights

Another way to burn those Thanksgiving calories is to go for a walk after your gluttonous meal. But don’t just walk around the block this year, head down to the Atlanta Botanical Garden for the Garden Lights: Holiday Nights tour featuring over a million holiday lights. If you’re feeling sluggish after the meal, you can catch the lights over the weekend or any night through January 4th.

Lenox: Lighting of the Tree

You don’t have to be in New York City to experience a Macy’s Thanksgiving day event. Bring in the holiday season at Macy’s Lenox Square while watching the Lighting of the Great Tree. Show up at 6 p.m., and enjoy a number of live musical performances while you wait.

Weekend Theater

Having a hard time getting in the holiday spirit? Check out one of Atlanta’s many holiday theater presentations this weekend ranging from holiday horror to comedy and the classics. Experience uncontrollable laughter with “The Santaland Diaries” at Horizon Theatre, or enjoy an night of murder and mystery with “The Nut Croaker Ballet: Murder on Your Toes” at Agatha’s: A Taste of Mystery Dinner Theatre.

Whether you decide to take part in holiday athletic events, light shows or theater, Southtowne Motors – your Atlanta Buick, Cadillac, Chevy and GMC car dealer – would like to wish you a very happy and safe Thanksgiving.
