Accessorize Your Ride For Spring

4-13-2016-SpringCar

When it’s time to accessorize your new vehicle from SouthTowne Motors of Newnan, Georgia for the spring, you’ll want to get some much-needed accessories to protect your floors, such a floor mats, and some accessories that will help you with fun time in the spring.

Rubber Floor Mats

Spring brings a plethora of weather including rain, snow and sleet; and that could mean mud. You might have nice carpeted floor mats, but mud gets ground into them and then into the carpet below the floor mats. Get some rubber floor mats for the times you have inclement weather. You can use them when it’s going to be nasty out, and then remove them when the weather is nice. You’ll save a bunch of time on cleaning the interior; and your carpeted floor mats will last much longer.

Hood Protectors

With spring comes the bugs. And sometimes tons of bugs. If you are traveling in an area with love bugs, they make more of a mess of your vehicle than other bugs because they are so plentiful. And, if you travel on gravel roads, there’s always a chance that gravel could get kicked up on to the hood of the vehicle. Add a molded hood protector to your vehicle to protect the front of the hood from bugs and gravel or other debris that gets kicked up from the roadways.

Cargo Management

Whether you carry a few things in the cargo area or you prefer outdoor activities such as biking or water skiing, cargo management accessories will help you keep everything in order. Nets, cargo management dividers and boxes, and even roof rails with the appropriate gear such as a bike rack or ski rack make your vehicle more utilitarian. A cargo box on the roof gives you plenty of room to pack hiking and camping gear.

Apple CarPlay is in 14 Chevy models that are distributed in the United States, Canada, Brazil and Mexico. Building A Car Emergency Car Kit

Here at More Miles with Mader I like to provide you with a variety of auto related and area information. I think it’s part of what a car dealer in Atlanta should do. This time around I am going to talk about creating your own emergency car kit. I’m not just going to talk about the basics. I also think I may have some good ideas for things you may not have even considered.

The place to start though is with the basics. I would consider the basic to include some sort of medical emergency kit. It should at least include a few bandages, tape, gauze and some packets of those disposable wipes you find at a rib or wing place. The basics should also include:

  • A flare or flares
  • Reflectors
  • Can of Fix-A-Flat
  • A Blanket
  • Jumper cables
  • Matches or a lighter
  • Flashlight
  • Plastic Poncho

If you travel alone frequently or travel out in the country quite a bit you may also want to consider these items.

  • A charged but out of service cellphone. These phones can still be used to call 911.
  • A tire repair kit. They are inexpensive and if you can find the hole, you can fix it at least well enough to get where it can be attended to more permanently.
  • Maps. Even if you have a GPS, keep a map available.
  • A bottle of water or two. You never know how long help may take to arrive.
  • A small air compressor. These can help fill a tire with a slow leak, or a inflate a repaired one.You can generally find these for under $20.
  • A portable self-contained power pack. These allow you to jump your car without help or even recharge your cellphone. These can cost anyway from about $40 on up, but can be invaluable.
  • WD-40. This can really help if you experience a tough lug-nut.
  • Duct tape. Hey, you never know!
  • A $20 bill hidden in the trunk or glove compartment. Again, you never know!

With cellphones, todays road emergencies can generally be minimized but it is always best to be prepared. You may look back on this and be thankful you put together your own emergency car kit.

If you are looking for a new car take a quick trip to Southtowne Motors of Newnan. We offer Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevy and GMC cars and trucks. We also offer used cars and trucks as well. Enjoy the road and remember to check back for More Miles with Mader!

Atlanta GM Dealer: Cool Your Car, Use A Windshield Shade

At your Atlanta are GM dealer, the Southtowne General Motors Superstore we know the benefits Sure you are thinking, “Man, those things are a pain to put up and even more of a pain to store”. At least that’s what I thought until last Saturday after a round of golf. I’m not kidding, my Atlanta Cadillac was 10,000* and my seats were twice as hot. As I instantly start dehydrating, waiting for what seemed like an eternity, I remembered seeing my windshield shade in my trunk when I was putting in my clubs. Boy, a lot of good it does me there.

So the question isn’t, “Do windshield shades work”? We all know the do. It’s “How well do they work”? As in, “how much heat can they cut down inside my car”? So, I did a little research and this is what I found…get ready for the science!

So you see, not only does a sunshade keep your car cool, but it helps maintain the integrity and good looks of your dashboard and seats as well. There are some sunshades out there that can reflect up to 97% of the Sun’s damaging rays. Of course that doesn’t mean that stepping into your car will be like taking a seat in your refrigerator, but it will certainly keep it much cool than if you didn’t use one.

At your Atlanta car dealer, the Southtowne General Motors Superstore, out parts department had a decent selection of sunshades designed to it your Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet or GMC…Swing by and take a look, before it gets really hot out there.

Atlanta Car Dealer Recomendation For Improved Performance

If you are like every American driver, you are looking for ways to improve your cars performance and gas mileage. Your Atlanta car dealer, the Southtowne General Motors Superstore, wants to remind you that one of the easiest things you can do to increase performance is to change your intake air filter. The air filter is an important part of the intake system in your vehicle as it is what helps your engine “breathe.”  Your engine runs on an exact mixture of air and fuel, but before it is combined it runs through the filter first. This is to get out all of the dirt and foreign particles which could possibly damage the engine.  A dirty air filter affect your vehicles performance.

Another important reason to have a clean air filter is that it will help with gas mileage. And with gas prices higher than we would like, it’s a great reason to check your air filter to make sure it is clean. Usually once a year, preferably twice is good to change your air filter, however if you live in highly polluted area then you should check and change it more often.  Air filters can also be checked during your routine oil change.

If you would like to check and change your own air filter it is a fairly easy process.  Open up the hood and locate a large plastic tube that leads away from the top of the engine. Follow this to a large box that maybe metal or plastic, round or square, depending on your vehicle.  This is the air filter box which contains the air filter. Pop off the top and locate the filter. If the filter is brown or black, then it is restricting the passage of air and should be replaced immediately.

It’s important to check and replace your air filter to maintain your vehicle’s performance and extended the life of it. You could set up an alert in your phone to remind you to check it every 3 to 6 months.  Or if you’d like help, just bring it on by to our service department at you Atlanta Buick, Cadillac GMC, Chevrolet dealer, the Southtowne General Motors Superstore.

Atlanta Cars: Secure Your Infant In Their Car Seat Safely

So, you just had a baby…and what’s that? You aren’t sure how to install your car seat? How did you expect to get baby home? Call the Newnan Southtowne car shuttle? In all seriousness though, you know, new parents have enough to worry about. Change the baby. Feed the baby. Change the baby again. Swaddle the baby. Start baby’s college fund. But, what about securing the baby in their infant seat properly? How do you know you are doing it right, when you aren’t even sure how to change your new arrival’s diapers?

Here’s a quick easy video to watch from Graco, a car seat manufacturer. They do a very good job explaining how easy it can be to install an infant car seat, even if you are new to the whole “baby thing.” Dads, I’m looking at you.

If you are expecting a child soon, get in the practice now of installing your infant seat. The good news is that you’ll really only have to install the base, once that is done, then the rest of the seat clips into it. Of course, as your child gets older, they will need a larger seat, so you are going to want to know how to do it from the “get-go”.

Once you have that baby, it will be using a car seat for a long time. Probably longer than you may think. If you aren’t sure you are installing your baby seat properly, then just swing by Southtowne Motors, and we’ll show you exactly how to do it.

Atlanta, How Well Do You Know The Brakes On Your GMC Cadillac or Chevy

We’ve see many cars come through the Southtowne Service Department that have been involved in accidents because of suspected brake failures. How do you know if your brakes are on the verge of “taking the day off”? Let’s see if I can shed some light on this.

One leading indicator is the feel of the brake pedal, so if your new car pulls left or right when braking, or if the front end shakes, then these are definite signs of excessive brake wear. If the brake pedal in your automobile begins to feel spongy, it could be a sign that air has entered the brake system or fluid is low. Do not ignore these warning signs!

A spongy brake pedal, together with a decrease in brake fluid, may also indicate brake wear. When you check the brake fluid reservoir, make sure it’s topped off. If not, then brake fluid is probably remaining at the wheel itself to fill the space caused by wear. Simply replace the brake fluid and letting it flow throughout the brake system by pumping the brake pedal a few times before your run your car.

Almost all new cars have ABS (Automatic Braking System) which initiates a rapid fire pumping sequence to the brakes, keeping the car straight during sudden or hard braking. If the ABS light illuminates on your instrument panel, then it’s likely that the wheel sensors have detected excessive build-up of metal particles from the brake system. Most new cars are designed to shut down the ABS when excessive particle build-up occurs, but a shutdown ABS does not prevent you from stopping, it just means that the ABS feature isn’t working. My advice is to have this taken care of immediately. The ABS system on your car is very valuable, especially when navigating through in climate weather.

If you have any other questions, or you think it might be  time to have your brakes checked by a professional, swing by Southtowne and we’ll check them out.
