Buick’s Best Classic Cars

Buick has a longstanding reputation for luxury and quality. Take a look back at some of the best Buick vehicles over the past decades before you head over to SouthTowne Motors to check out the new Buick models available on the lot.

The 1961 Buick Special

One of Buick’s most iconic vehicles and, indeed, one of automotive history’s most influential models, the 1961 Buick Special really put Buick at the forefront of the auto world in the early 60s.

It’s revolutionary all-aluminum construction made it the lightest mass-produced vehicle with a V-8. The combination of a supercharged engine with a light frame meant that the engine had tons of potential for fine tuning and optimization. Out of the box, the ’61 made 150-horsepower and 220 pound-feet of torque, but those numbers could be inflated significantly.

Not to mention that the ’61s flat out looked great. They were sleek and futuristic for the time and have aged to become vintage beauties.

The 1970 Buick GSX

The quintessential Buick muscle car, the GSX typified the 70s craze for more power at any cost.

The ravenous 455 cubic-inch V8 engine was ram-air-inducted and could easily make over 400-horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque at a low 2800 rpms.

The 1987 Buick GNX

The Grand National first made its debut in 1982, but it was 1987 that saw the Grand National Experimental, or GNX for short. This souped up and highly modified Buick was given the royal treatment. It was about sending a statement: Buicks could be the baddest vehicles on the road if they wanted to be. Designed to outstrip anything else coming out that year, even from supercar designers like Porsche and Ferrari, the GNX had an engine, transmission, and suspension that all worked in harmony to produce 276-horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque.

What to Expect from the 2018 Buick Enclave

2017-buick-enclave-mov-exterior-17BUEN00115-938x528-01

Pictured: 2017 Buick Enclave

At long last a new Buick Enclave is coming. It’s been almost a decade since the original Buick Enclave entered the market, so an update was long overdue. The 2018 Buick Enclave will be revealed on April 11, 2017, a day before the press hits the floor at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.

What we do know is that the 2018 Enclave will ride on the same architecture seen with the 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, meaning it will keep its full-size, third-row setup. Judging by what we saw with the 2018 Traverse, a 3.6-liter LGX V6 is quite likely, as is as 2.0-liter LTG turbocharged four-cylinder option to emphasize fuel efficiency.

Where the two large CUVs will differ is in design. Where the 2018 Traverse does its best Tahoe impression, the 2018 Buick Enclave will adopt signature Buick design traits we’ve seen from the LaCrosse and Encore.

And, of course, expect plenty of premium touches with the 2018 Enclave. That’s a given from a luxury brand, but, as we suspected, the 2018 Enclave will also be the first Buick to get the Avenir treatment in North America. Buick announced its Avenir sub-brand last year, which will add unique design traits such as wheels and grilles, and provide an even more luxurious cabin with high-quality materials. Each touch is said to be inspired by the Avenir concept vehicle itself.

Buick confirmed the 2018 Enclave will be built in Lansing, Michigan, and will go on sale by the end of 2017. Stay tuned as we learn more leading up to the CUV’s reveal in just under a month.
