Do You Know When You Need New Brake Pads

When do you know it’s the right time to “really” have your brake pads changed in your Atlanta GM vehicle? Every mechanic is going to have their own opinion, but for the most part they’ll agree that when you start hearing the squeal of your brakes,  your car is due for an immediate brake pad change.

Brand new pads are 12mm thick and never wear evenly. When you get down to about 4mm you are getting a little thin. When you hit the 2mm mark is when you will start hearing the screeching of the wear bar. This is the time that you are going to want to get your brake pads changed out. Letting them go will result in damage to your braking system, so don’t put it off.

Checking your brake pad thickness is something you can do on your own. You can even change them yourself if you have the time, tools and know-how. However, if you think that you are going to need a little more assistance changing the brake pads out on your Atlanta GM vehicle, then your best best bet is to just bring it by your Atlanta GM service department at The Southtowne General Motors Superstore.
