Newnan: Stop Texting and Start Driving!

There are no words to describe the danger you are in.

With the continued growth of better and more advanced communication devices, there has been a lot of discussion about the dangers of driving while using your cell phone, both to text and talk. According to the National Highway Administration, drivers are four times more likely to have an accident if they are on their cell phone, even if they are using a hands-free headset.I even heard figures as high as 10 times when texting!

Currently, 19 states and the District of Columbia have laws banning texting while driving and according to the National Conference of State Legislators 26 states have proposed legislation limiting cell phone use on the road.

Some organizations, such as the National Motorists Association, have argued that these laws are ineffective and unnecessary and are difficult to enforce. Because many Americans are constantly connected, whether it’s through their computer or cell phone. Also, it can be difficult to resist picking up the phone when it rings or when you receive a text.

Maybe this video will make you think a little more before you pick up that phone when you are behind the wheel. This 10 minute video could be the most important video you’ll ever watch.

I’m sure there is nothing more I can add to what you saw in the video other than: Just don’t do it. No text, or call is worth your life, or that of anyone else.
