Find New Roads

Rumored for almost a year now, Chevy has announced they will be changing their old slogan of ‘Chevy Runs Deep’ that was created in 2010 to ‘Find New Roads.’ The original motto was envisioned to help consumers reconnect to Chevrolet by preserving a brand with solid American roots during their bankruptcy scare. The company has confirmed that it would be winding down the Chevy Runs Deep slogan in early February. Not only did the Chevy Runs Deep slogan not resonate well with consumers, GM’s marketing has had trouble translating the Chevy Runs Deep motto in many foreign markets.

This new slogan will help push the brand towards a more global audience. It is intended to reflect all of Chevrolet’s commitment to innovation and worldwide growth. According to recent statements from GM, the new slogan will be used in upcoming advertisements that will be shown around the world. Automakers will begin to develop cars for sale in over 140 different markets.

The real question boils down to whether or not “Find New Roads” sends a more appealing message to consumers not only in America, but internationally? Automakers are depending on the new marketing slogan to help with the largest new vehicle offensive in ages. The company will be introducing a plethora of new automobiles in the U.S. and 12 in different areas from around the globe. This is particularly significant for new vehicles like the Impala sedan that will be hitting the showrooms this quarter.

The newest commercial for Find New Roads was released on YouTube just recently. It introduces five commercials in one which showcase just as many vehicles; the new Chevy Spark, Volt, Impala, Sonic, and Corvette.

This finished commercial is a blend of five different styles, moods, songs, and stories. Each story was precisely developed with a specific mood for each vehicle. This commercial is intended to allow your imagination to run wild, mixing well with their new motto ‘Find New Roads’. Placing each of these vehicles in their own unique world helps to create an iconic image and for consumers to relate to each of the cars mentioned.

SouthTowne Motors continues to sell these great American icon vehicles at great prices. When you need a time tested and true vehicle, come to SouthTowne.

Extending the Life of Your Brakes

Changing your brakes is inevitable. The grinding or squeaking sound your brakes give off is a clear indicator that you need to change them. But let’s try to keep them from making that sound as long as possible.

Here are a few tips and tricks to extend the life of your brakes from SouthTowne Motors, your Newnan car dealer.

Speeding destroys your brakes

Stopping hard from high speeds is the number one killer of brakes. Even speeding just a little will shorten the lifespan of your brakes. Braking at high speeds forces the brakes to dissipate one-third more energy, which causes heat due to friction when applied. This can drastically reduce the life of your brake pads. The extreme clamping force needed for a last second brake can also crack your braking pads. Simply being mindful of your speed can add months to the lifespan of your brakes.

Don’t ride the brakes

Avoid riding the brakes, especially when coasting down hills. This could possibly be the worst thing to do when trying to expand the life of your brakes. The best method is to alternate between coasting and braking, giving the brakes a chance to cool off so they won’t over heat and cause faster deterioration of the brake pads. The more coasting you do, the longer your friction materials are going to last.

Get them flushed

The brake fluids need to be changed periodically. Most mechanics call it bleeding and flushing. This can be extremely beneficial if you have an older vehicle, or if you purchased one used. By flushing the brake fluids, it will make the internal components last longer and the brakes function better. The older the brake fluid is, the higher the moisture content is within the fluid. Old brake fluid can result in failure of the wheel cylinders and brake calipers.

Get inspected

Everything wears over time and your brakes are no exception. Having a regular brake inspection performed will make it easier to note problems before they develop. The brakes will be able to tell you a lot about your car, for instance if your wheel alignment is off. It is important to get on a regular maintenance schedule with your car.

If it is time, however, for your Chevy brakes to be replaced or inspected, head south of Atlanta and come see us at SouthTowne Motors!

Best Vehicles for Tailgating at SouthTowne Motors

The tailgating season is approaching. With football games, NASCAR races, and other popular outdoor sports, the buzz and excitement is heavy in the air. The motions of tailgating are simple: pick up some friends or family, grab some grub from the store, and then park at your stadium destination.

But what if you don’t have an appropriate vehicle for this type of party? No worries! Just stop at your Newnan car dealer for a new Chevy truck before your event.

Chevy Silverado - perfect for football tailgating

We have several tailgating options to choose from. The best selections to go with, naturally, are trucks. Even so, there are a range of other vehicles that don’t typically fit the tailgating mold. For instance, a great car for this is the Chevrolet Traverse 2LT. It can seat up to 8 people and has a large cargo area. Both the second and third row seats can fold down for extra carrying capacity.

The Cadillac Escalade, or the EXT version, are both great vehicles to party with. The EXT is the same great Escalade you have come to love, with all the spacious room and luxurious features. The EXT attached to the name means the rear half is a truck. Very useful for tailgating yet comfortable enough for 8 people to stretch out.

Another great SUV/truck hybrid that is perfect for tailgating is the Chevrolet Avalanche. It can seat up to 6 people happily and boasts over 45 cu feet inside as well as a 98 inch bed. Just think of the possibilities you can do with that much space. Some people have even customized their trucks and SUVs to fit bars and an entertainment system in the bed of their vehicles for such occasions.

Buick enters this list with their Enclave and Rendezvous models. The Enclave seats up to 8 people with both back rows able to collapse for extra storage space. Perfect for hauling all the extra coolers and accessories you might need for your get-together. The Rendezvous is a crossover SUV that was built between 2002 and 2007. They no longer produce these, but, if you can find one, you can customize it and make it one of the best tailgating vehicles around.

Of course, many other options are out there since you can tailgate in almost anything. So, if you want a great tailgating car or truck that your friends will be jealous of, drive just an hour south of Atlanta to Southtowne.

The History of Chevrolet

SouthTowne Motors is your go-to place for the brands you love most: Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC. These affordable and dependable performance vehicles all have such rich and colorful histories behind them. None, however, have as much drive as Chevrolet. This company has been inventing and producing cars since 1911 and is still going strong today.

Chevrolet was founded by engineer and Swiss race car driver Louis Chevrolet and William Durant, who was also the founder of General Motors. Durant had been ousted from working as management for General Motors in 1910. He then became head of the Buick Motor Company and hired Louis Chevrolet to drive Buick cars in promotional races.

The design concepts for the first automobile, the Series C Classic Six, were drawn up and the first prototype of this vehicle was ready before the company was even incorporated. The bowtie emblem that the company is known for was first used in 1914. The exact origin of the emblem is unknown but some speculate it either originated from wallpaper Durant saw in a French hotel room or that it is based on the logo from the Coalettes coal company. Still, others believe it could be a stylized Swiss cross from the founder’s parents’ homeland.

Trouble ensued in 1915 over design and Chevrolet sold his share of the company to Durant. The company became quite profitable by 1916 and Durant repurchased interest in GM. By 1917 he had become president of General Motors. He merged the two companies together with Chevrolet as a separate division. There were factories for this vastly growing brand all throughout the United States as well as a few in the Canadian division.

This company was known as one of the “Low-priced three” with the other two being Ford and Plymouth. During the 1950s and 1960s, Chevrolet held huge influence on the American market. The Corvette was introduced in 1953 and their first fuel-injected engine hit the streets in 1957. One in every ten cars sold in 1963 was made by Chevrolet.

Impala became the best-selling vehicle in history during the 1960s and 1970s. The basic small block V8 engine design has remained in use since the inception in 1955. In 2010, they introduced the Volt which is a fully electric car. Since then, it has been awarded the North American Car of the Year as well as World Green Car of the Year in 2012.

Chevy continues their growth with innovative and fuel-efficient cars, trucks, and SUVs. If you’re looking for one of these amazing vehicles, come see us at our Newnan Chevy dealership today.

GPS And You: What You Need to Know

At Southtown Motors, we know how much you hate getting lost. That’s why we’ve compiled this information on different types of GPS systems that you can use to keep you going in the right direction. Why use a GPS? A GPS can be useful on a vacation, for work, during emergencies, when you’re participating in recreational activities, and anytime you need to know where you’re going. There are so many uses that you can come up with, you’ll end up using your GPS all the time.

You can use a Sat-Nav, or Street Navigation System, which is the most common type. This form of GPS can be built into your car in some cases, or you can purchase one aftermarket. Some are attacked to the dashboard or to your window for easy use. These GPS systems will tell you how to get to a place with step-by-step instructions. You may be able to get US and international maps, and you can also search for places, businesses, and by activity.

Sports GPS systems are also an option. These could be set for marine information, or they could be wristwatches that you can keep on you. The GPS will monitor where you are, so it can keep you moving the right way.

You can also get a GPS on your cell phone. There are many apps available that track your location through the use of the phone’s internal GPS and Internet usage. These systems will have trouble working if you don’t get a signal, though, so be careful when you take them out of the city.

No matter where you’re going or what you want to do, a GPS can help you get there without a struggle. You simply place the address or location into the computer, and it will help you understand the route you need to take. Some are even wise enough to know when there is going to be a problem with traffic.

Atlanta Cars, How Do You Know If You Have A Busted Muffler?

It’s no secret, especially when they pass you, some people love loud cars and go to great lengths to modify their exhaust systems to sound just right. Now this post isn’t about exhaust mods, but if you are into that sort of thing then we suggest you check out the Southtowne GM Superstore for some great aftermarket modification including modifying your exhaust system.

Now, if loud cars aren’t your thing and you didn’t modify your exhaust system, but it sounds like you did, then you may have a muffler problem.  It wasn’t too long ago that this very thing happened to a friend of mine. His car was extremely loud!  It was like it was when he was 18 when he purposefully put holes in his muffler to achieve a louder car sound. I don’t recommend this at all as your muffler is a key part of your car’s exhaust system. Not only does it reduce noise, but it also prevents exhaust fumes from entering into the passenger compartment of a car. If exhaust is entering  your vehicle then you may be faced with even more problems than just a broken muffler. Carbon monoxide from your car can be deadly.  If you suspect you have a broken muffler, here are some things to check out:

  1. Turn your car on and listen for low pitched rhythmic sounds or a rumbling. If you do have a broken muffler it will create a loud exhaust noise.
  2. Inspect your muffler for holes or rust. Rust usually happens from the inside out, and is an indicator that holes are developing.
  3. Look for unusual exhaust smoke. This may be a big cloud when you hit the gas or even a very subtle one.
  4. If you vehicle starts to slowly overheat, this may also be an indication of broken muffler. The exhaust system can affect engine performance.
  5. Check to see if there are any water leaks near the back of the car. This too is an indicator of a hole in the muffler.

If have done the above suggested checks on your vehicle but still are unsure, please schedule an appointment with the service department at the Southtowne GM Superstore to get this taken care of right away. Of course, if you’re are liking the new sound your car is making, first get your muffler fixed first and then let’s talk about what Southtowne can do for a proper exhaust system modification.

Get a New Car, Even if You Have the Bad Credit Blues

So you need a car but have bad credit? Don’t worry; bad credit car loans are highly prevalent in today’s world, so you are not the only person in this boat. Nearly 25% of Americans have issues with their credit. As long as you prepare yourself and follow the right course of action, the Southtowne GM Superstore should be able to purchase the car you want as well as receive a bad credit car loan.

As I just mentioned, preparation is the key. Your first course of action should be to review your credit history so that you can ensure that there are no errors. There are many free credit websites out there you can use to help you.

The next important step to obtaining a bad credit car loan is to determine how much you can truly afford to pay for your car. It is absolutely essential that you be honest with yourself about how much you can afford and don’t let your eyes get bigger than your wallet. You should have a number in mind for how much you can afford for both a down payment and monthly payments.

Now that you have taken care of the preparation, you must be prepared to provide proof of employment and income so that the lender can have all of the information in front of them, which will facilitate your bad credit car loan. The lender may not always ask for these documents, but it’s better to be safe than sorry when applying for a bad credit car loan.

Once you have followed the aforementioned steps, you must take extra steps in the future to ensure a clean credit history. You must make it a priority to make on-time payments for your bad credit car loan so that there are no bad marks on your credit history. You will also want to avoid car title loans (or any other type of loan for that matter) in the event that you need cash. It is much more logical to consider a refinance car loan.

If you still have questions about bad credit car loans, you can find answers and other great information here at Southtowne and through other mediums, such as forums and reviews of companies. You can also get a lot of help through loan companies. Although your credit may be a little worse than you would prefer, these companies still want to be able to make loans work since that is how they make money so they will certainly be willing to discuss bad credit car loans with you.

So take a deep breath and don’t worry! You can still get a car.

Atlanta GM Dealer: Which Terrible Driver Are You

You share the road with them in Atlanta everyday…the terrible drivers. With the amount of recent activity in the Southtowne General Motors Superstore, I’m going to bet that for some of these these dents and dings, it wasn’t their first time being repaired. That’s OK, you don’t have to be great at everything….some people are just bad drivers. Of course, there are very few people in this world that will actually admit that they are horrible drivers. As much as it pains me to say, I’ve probably been one of them a time, or two. I found this list combined by AutoInsurance.org and added a few of my own lines in for good measure. Which are you most guilty of?

(1) The Time Waster – You know this guy. You’re waiting to make a right turn and he’s coming down the street and instead of using his blinker to let you know he’s turning before you – you sit there and waste time not knowing what he’s going to do. Or, the guy sitting at the red light, busy texting…green light….still texting…horn….still texting…HOOOOORRRRRRRN!!!!!….red light.

(2) Traffic Weavers – Pick a lane, pal! As unbelievable as it may seem, all of your traffic weaving is going to do nothing…we’ll still end up at the same red light.

(3) Light Turns Green And Nothing – See time waster.

(4) The No Reason Passer – OK, you passed me, got in front of me and slowed down? What’s up with that?

(5) I’m Officially BlindRegular lights, use them. Thanks. No, seriously, if you have to use your brights, and there are times when we do, be courteous and shut them off for on coming traffic.

(6) The Snail / The Bullet – “Have you ever noticed that anyone driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?” – George Carlin

(7) Widespread Panic – That’s it, you can come over, I see your blinker. We have established communication and I have left a sizable gap to fit into. HEY! YOU!!! YEAH YOU< GO!!!! If you are timid, make the decision then commit to that decision, i guarantee you, you will be a better driver for it.

(8) Oh Will You Look At That – I know, with all of the distractions that are roadside these days, we don’t need to be making it worse by rubbernecking. Just go, mind your own business and stop adding to a potential traffic issue. When you brake to slow to look at an minor accident or something, you are making everyone else behind you slow down too. Just go. Just go.

(9) The Permanent Blinker – Are you going, or aren’t you? Pay attention to your instrument cluster now and again and you may find that you’ve been warning everyone of your potential right turn for the last 15 miles, or so.

(10) The Ones That Enter The Parking Lot – It’s OK to enter a parking lot faster than a 1.5 mph. Also see (6).

OK, this was all in good fun. I know that we are all guilty of being those drivers in the list above. So, now that you know, maybe you can focus a little more on being a better driver.Your Atlanta GM dealer, Southtowne would rather see better drivers and see your cars in here.
