Atlanta Buick Dealer: Surviving A Car Accident, Financially

First let me start by saying, I hope you are never involved in an accident resulting in injury, especially to yourself. However, If you have, and the accident was proven to have not been your fault, Southtowne Motors believes you may have a good compensation claim against the other party. Please keep in mind that I’m not telling you to bring frivolous suits against other drivers. This is only advice for those who were medically proven to have sustained the injury as a direct result of the accident.

With that in mind, I’d like to say further that I really hope that you don’t have to go through the stressful experience of a lawsuit of any kind. However, this is real life and things happen…here’s what to do if  you have to litigate:

Get a copy of the accident report, collect all of your injury information and get a lawyer. Many personal injury lawyers work on a “No Win, No Fee” basis meaning you don’t need to pay them a penny for their services if you don’t win your case. If you do win your case you still will not have to pay their legal costs and the fees, as they will be collected from the other party. If you lose your case, they are very likely to get nothing, that’s why they mostly take cases they believe will win.

In regards to insurance, any medical costs from the hospital, health care and also any medicine you’ve had to purchase can probably be claimed. If any other costs have arose from this car accident then make it clear when you speak to your lawyer, they will need to know the full facts of the accident as well as the pain and costs you have or are suffering from.

Remember, every car accident compensation claim is completely different from any other. It depends on the injuries that were caused, any costs or medical treatment, time off work needed and much more. As well as the time it took them to close the case. It could take a few months or a couple of years, so just keep this in mind when choosing your compensation claim lawyer, get a good one.

Some good questions to ask are :

• Will I get the ‘whole’ of my compensation?
• Will I need to pay a fee?
• Do you recover costs from the other side (i.e. people at fault)?
• Would I need to pay anyone any money once my claim is settled?

Again,  the Southtowne General Motors Superstore hopes you never have to experience any of the above. However, if you do, know that you have the right to file claim against the offending party. Be wise in your choice of lawyer, he should have your best interest in mind…not his.

Atlanta Drivers: Do Shock Tactics Work In Driver’s Education Courses?

If you have kids, then you know, that one day they will be driving and hopefully it’s a Southtowne Motors car. They’ll, no doubt, be attending a driver’s education course. Now, driver’s ed has changed drastically in the past 60 years. There has been more of a shift from shock education…remember all of those horrific videos they’d show to kids about the dangers of driving. Check out the one I found from the 50’s below.

These days, driver’s education is more real world and scenario driven, as opposed to the shock and awe of past driving classroom videos. Which do you think is a better technique? Does the shock really deter kids from abusing their driving privilege? Does focusing on real world scenarios seem to achieve better results, or does it neglect the inherent dangers and responsibilities of driving? What will a driver’s ed course look like in 50 more years? Or, will we be taking flying ed courses to be able to drive our new Atlanta cars? Southtowne General Flying Motors Superstore has a nice ring to it.

Atlanta Cars: Secure Your Infant In Their Car Seat Safely

So, you just had a baby…and what’s that? You aren’t sure how to install your car seat? How did you expect to get baby home? Call the Newnan Southtowne car shuttle? In all seriousness though, you know, new parents have enough to worry about. Change the baby. Feed the baby. Change the baby again. Swaddle the baby. Start baby’s college fund. But, what about securing the baby in their infant seat properly? How do you know you are doing it right, when you aren’t even sure how to change your new arrival’s diapers?

Here’s a quick easy video to watch from Graco, a car seat manufacturer. They do a very good job explaining how easy it can be to install an infant car seat, even if you are new to the whole “baby thing.” Dads, I’m looking at you.

If you are expecting a child soon, get in the practice now of installing your infant seat. The good news is that you’ll really only have to install the base, once that is done, then the rest of the seat clips into it. Of course, as your child gets older, they will need a larger seat, so you are going to want to know how to do it from the “get-go”.

Once you have that baby, it will be using a car seat for a long time. Probably longer than you may think. If you aren’t sure you are installing your baby seat properly, then just swing by Southtowne Motors, and we’ll show you exactly how to do it.

Atlanta Drivers, You Are Looking, But You Aren’t Seeing

I’m sure you’ve all heard the expression, “You maybe  hearing what I’m saying, but you’re not listening” once or twice in your lifetime. Of course, the same can be said when you are behind the wheel, but with a twist; “you’re looking, but you’re not seeing.” At Southtowne Motors, we understand that there are many distractions on the road, most of them will take you away from the task at hand, which is driving. Watch this video below and I think you’ll see what I mean.

It sure is easy to miss what we aren’t looking for, especially when we are driving. There are a lot of things we have to think about such as road conditions, our speed, various traffic laws, different signs and signals and the other drivers around us.  Now add distractions such as cell phones and the radio to the mix and you’ve got quite a lot going on, wouldn’t you say?

The video above was made the London Department of Transportation to heighten motorists awareness of cyclists. The motto of the campaign,  “It’s easy to miss what you aren’t looking for,” is a great message to send to automotive drivers everywhere. There is nothing more important than being aware of our surroundings at all times when we’re in our cars. So what’s the best way to do this?

Stay alert. Being alert (not sleepy or under the influence) allows you to react quickly to potential problems — like when the driver in the car ahead slams on the brakes at the last minute. Obviously, alcohol or drugs (including prescription and over-the-counter drugs) affect a driver’s reaction time and judgment. Driving while drowsy has the same effect and is one of the leading causes of crashes. So rest up before your road trip.

Be aware of your surroundings — pay attention. Check your mirrors frequently and scan conditions 20 to 30 seconds ahead of you. If a vehicle is showing signs of aggressive driving, slow down or pull over to avoid it. If the driver is driving so dangerously that you’re worried, try to get off the roadway by turning right or taking the next exit if it’s safe to do so. Also, keep an eye on pedestrians, bicyclists, and pets along the road.

Do not depend on other drivers. Be considerate of others but look out for yourself. Do not assume another driver is going to move out of the way or allow you to merge. Assume that drivers will run through red lights or stop signs and be prepared to react. Plan your movements anticipating the worst-case scenario.

So Atlanta, the next time you are in your Southtowne car or truck, think about these three things as you drive along.

Atlanta Cars: The 2012 Chevrolet Traverse

2012 chevy travers, Atlanta Buick Dealer, atlanta cars, Atlanta Chevy, atlanta dealers, atlanta gas, atlanta used cars, brake pads, buying your first car, cadillac crossover, cars of Atlanta, chevy dealer, chevy truck month, coweta gm, dealer in Atlanta, distracted driving, Fixing flat tire, georgia gmc, gmc car dealer, new chevy, new GM technology, newnan buick, newnan cadillac, newnan car dealerships, newnan georgia, radiator hoses gmc, southtowne, southtowne cadillac, southtowne GM SuperstoreAll around, Southtowne really thinks that the new 2012 Chevy Traverse has gracefully aged into a really amazing crossover. One of the most significant aspects about the 2012 Chevy Traverse is it’s sizable cargo space, which is larger than the rest of it’s crossover competitors.

The Chevrolet Traverse offers distinctive styling and a sportier driving experience than its GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave siblings. With seating for up to seven or eight people in three rows, the Traverse competes with the Toyota Highlander, Mazda CX-9 and Hyundai Veracruz.

Another bonus, is the 2012 Traverse’s drivability. Smooth comfortable handling is accompanied by a 6-cylinder engine that pack more than the punch it needs to keep up with The Jones. Take a look at the video below from for a detailed review of the 2012 Chevy Traverse.

The bottom line is that the 2012 Chevrolet Traverse is a crossover that really needs to be test driven to understand the great feel that this vehicle has. Did I mention that it has more cubic space than a Ford Explorer. So if you are looking for a crossover that has enough power and good looks to escape the dreaded “mini-van” label, than the 2012 Chevy Traverse is the vehicle for you. There’s enough room for the whole family and enough driving fun to feel that you aren’t just driving a “soccer mom/dad mobile.

Come and check you the 2012 Chevy Traverse for yourself at Southtowne. I guarantee you’ll be surprised by your experience.

Atlanta Cars: What’s That “Rattle” I Hear

A rattle in your vehicle can be one of the most frustrating noises to try to figure out. A rattle can literally come from anywhere in the vehicle, which consequently makes it a difficult fix to pin down. I’m going to say this right up front, If you hear a rattle and aren’t a mechanic by trade, than your best bet is to bring it into the Southtowne General Motors Superstore. It can take you a long time with a bunch of dead ends before you finally put your finger on the cause of the noise. I’m not even going to mention any of the money you spent to try to fix it yourself.

Watch the video below…think this made a noise?

As I said, the cost associated to repair a rattle can vary between tightening a lose bolt to replacing the transmission, or as you saw in the video an insanely bad wheel bearing. (Hopefully, you don’t go that long without having your noise issues checked out by a specialist.)

Just as with any abnormal noise, the first step is locating the region in which the sound is be generated from. A rattle can be generated when the car is in motion, or when the engine is running with the car stopped. There are so many moving parts to your car, noise can literally come from anywhere…engine oil, catalytic converter, shocks, engine mounts, U-Joints, transmission, timing belts, loose mufflers, springs…anywhere your car has a moving part.

Your best bet, when you encounter a noise is to just bring it into Southtowne. The longer you go without addressing a suspicious noise, you are just allowing it to get that much worse. Don’t be like the owners in the video above, our you’ll be exploring the wonders of the Atlanta Public Transportation System.

Atlanta Cars: Check and Maintain Your Hoses To Avoid Disaster

There is nothing worse than experiencing a preventable breakdown caused by a worn or broken hose. Southtowne sees hose issues daily. Some need immediate attention, some still have a little life, but many have obviously been ignored. Why are your hoses so important? The same reason the circulatory system in your body is important.

Your hoses carry the vital fluids that keep your engine lubricated, cool and most importantly, running. There are hoses for your radiator, your fuel injectors, your windshield wiper fluid tank, your power steering tank. They are everywhere in your vehicle and they need as much attention as you would if you were changing your oil, or even putting in gas.

The hose system in your Buick, Cadillac or GMC is under constant stress and can wear out easily and fail without warning. Routinely inspect all of your hoses for cracks, softness and ruptures. Changing your hoses yourself isn’t a very difficult task, if you should find an issue. However, if you aren’t sure what your are doing, or just aren’t comfortable with performing maintenance yourself, the experts at our Newnan car dealershipwill gladly help.

Atlanta Cars, Get You Timing Right For Increased Performance

Have you experienced a lag when your GMC, Buick or Cadillac shifts gears? You may have a timing issue. First let me say that Southtowne Motors can easily adjust the timing in your vehicle. Or, you can do it yourself, but let me warn you, setting the timing on your engine is one of the most misunderstood adjustments you can make, not that it’s hard, it’s just that your average commuter probably doesn’t even know that having your cylinders fire at the right time actually increases the performance of your new car. Then there’s that pesky timing belt you’ll need to look at.

The information on this video will help you understand and answer all of your questions about ignition timing much better than I can explain it in this blog.

I used to have an older SUV (not too old) which had a significant lag when switching between first and second gears. So much so that it was nearly a full second before the gears engaged. Having your engine so far out of time not only can put added wear on your cylinders and timing belt, but a mistimed engine can seriously decrease your fuel efficiency. In regards to fuel prices, this is critical, as we are approaching the $4 a gallon mark again. Nothing can put a dent in your wallet and a frown on your face when you realize that the timing issue with your cylinders firing appropriately is costing you money.

If you think you are experiencing a timing issue, bring your vehicle into our Newnan service department and we’ll fix it for you in a flash.

Atlanta Cars: Buying Your First New Car Should Be Fun

When it comes to buying your first new car, there is no doubt that you will be very excited and you will probably feel great about it for quite a while. The fact is though that this is a huge investment, so you will want to get it right. If you are lucky, this car will last you many years, so you will want to visit Southtowne first, so we can help you to get your choice right.

There is no doubt that the process of buying a car for the first time can be an intimidating experience if you are not ready, and do not know what to expect. Before you even set foot on a car lot, determine the amount that you can reasonably afford and if you are going to finance that first car. If so, you need to do a little homework to determine your payments, insurance and taxes.

Here are a few tips for anyone who is considering buying their very first car. Yes, this is an English Video…but, guess what, they buy cars too…

First, safety should be a huge consideration when choosing your first car. However, just because you may have extra safety features in your car, you still need to take care when driving.

The best piece of advice I could give when going to purchase you first car is to take someone with you that has been through the car buying process. It could be a parent, friend or extended family member that has bought cars in the past and knows what to expect. Whether you are looking for a new or a used car, having an experienced car buyer with you that can coach you as an unemotional observer can save you thousands of dollars.

Of course, if you’d like the easiest and most enjoyable car buying experience, see Southtowne GM…after all, we will be your dealer for life for a reason!
