2014 Stingray

Chevrolet is always reinventing their best vehicles. Recently, there has been buzz about what the new 2014 Corvette Stingray is to look and drive like. Well, the wait is over. They have just revealed the new sports car in Detroit at the Russell Industrial Center with hoards of onlookers watching in anticipation.

This highly anticipated coupe is priced starting at $51,000. Of course, there are many options and upgrades and different features you can add to make it your own. You can use the online Stingray configurator to get a good guesstimate on what you might be spending should you want one of these remarkable vehicles.

This car was reinvented from the ground up with the word ‘precision’ in mind. They managed to build a lightweight car with a ton of power and an aesthetically pleasing appearance. This, they call the Stingray. It has been designed with performance in mind and has a hood extractor, brake cooling and powertrain cooling for optimum driving performance.

Everything from the exterior design to the comforts inside were thoughtfully and carefully planned out. The headlamps and taillights were sculpted very elegantly with proportion and beauty. These lights give crisp and clean brightness and efficiency.

The interior is just as spectacular with the genuine Nappa leather which is perfectly smooth to the touch and free from blemishes. The instrument panel is also an amazing feature to behold. It has an 8-inch Hi-def screen that shows the driver real-time performance data. There is also an available Heads-Up Display which project crucial data in front of the driver. Imagine not having to look down at anything as you’re driving. Everything you need is right in your line of vision.

There are two different versions of the driver’s seat available; the Grand Touring seat and the Competition Sport seat. Both are built on a lightweight frame. The main difference is that the Competition Sport seat provides more comfort and support while driving.

Of course, the most important piece of information everyone is waiting for. The driving force coupled to this new machine is a 6.2L LT1 V8 engine that is sure to give the driver at least 460 ponies with a speed of 0-60 in 3.8 seconds.

This magnificent vehicle will be available soon at your Newnan car dealer. You can preorder or wait til they hit the lot. Stop by SouthTowne Motors and take a look at our extensive inventory of other vehicles as well.

XTS Twin Turbo

Cadillac, as everyone knows, means luxury and an innate intuitiveness for innovation. They always work harder to bring you the very best they can in every aspect of the vehicles they design. This being said, they have introduced the newest engine type; the twin turbo. This engine will be added to the 2014 CTS as well as the 2014 XTS which is due out later this year. It may eventually make its way into other GM models such as the Camaro or the ATS-V. But for now, let’s talk more about this engine.

The new 3.6L twin turbo engine has been designed to deliver at least 410 horsepower with 430 pounds of torque. This has not been done previously in a car of this size. They do not have the official number yet, but it is said it will reach 0-60 in around 5 seconds. Not sure what you’re used to driving, but that’s fast.

There is a commercial out right now that just hit the media. This spot shows the new Cadillac XTS Twin Turbo blowing the doors, literally, right off of its competitors. Now, when you drive this sports vehicle, you won’t make cars around you blow apart or anything but you will feel the intense speed and drive this vehicle offers. The symbolism of the car’s power is amazing.

Some of the comparable cars are the Chrysler 300 and the Lincoln MKS. Other rivals include Audi’s A4 and A6, the BMW 3 and 5 series and the Mercedes C-Class. Though there is quite the challenge, the XTS is still Cadillac’s largest sedan which replaced the outdated DTS. Among all of the improvements, the XTS will also be the first model to feature the brand’s infotainment system, CUE.

The power this engine provides has allowed the new XTS to become an all-wheel drive vehicle so it can withstand the force. With the invention of this new engine, the company believes that they will be able to propel a rear-wheel drive version of the next generation CTS from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. This will also give the next CTS a top speed of around 170 mph.

If you’re brave enough to test drive this vehicle for yourself, stop on in at SouthTowne Motors just south of Atlanta. We have a huge selection of new and used Chevrolet cars and trucks as well.

Air Bag Safety And Children

Air bags are designed to open on impact and to protect the driver and passengers in the case of a crash. Although new cars come standard with airbags because of their proven ability to save lives, their have been some concerns about their safety and effectiveness when it comes to children

Airbags are designed to protect large adults from the force and impact of a crash. As such they open with a large amount force, enough to seriously injure and possibly even kill a small child. In reaction to this discover the National Traffic Safety Administration has worked with car manufactures to set laws and guidelines that are designed to help reduce the number of injuries caused by airbags to children.

One of the biggest adaptations that auto manufactures have made to keep young children from being injured and killed by airbags is to put an on/off switch on airbags. If your car’s airbag has on/off switch it is highly recommend that you turn the airbag off anytime anyone under the age of 13 is sitting in the from seat. It may also be a good idea to turn off the airbag if a small adult is sitting in the front passenger seat.

Another precaution to take is to make sure that the person sitting in the seat with the airbag is sitting upright, in a comfortable position with their feet flat on the floor. It is especially important to make sure to teach your children to do this because when deployed the airbag could hit your child at the wrong angle and cause serious injuries. In rare cases, sitting with their feet on the dashboard where the airbag is located could cause them to deploy without there being an accident.

The best thing to do is to have your child sit in the back seat. Most states now have laws about how old a child must be in order to sit in the front seat. This is because of the damage airbags can have on growing bodies. It is important to follow these laws. Even if your child is old enough by law to sit in the front seat, in may be in their best interest to sit in the back anyway. Many children are smaller than their peers and could still be hurt by an airbag being deployed.

While airbags are important safety features that have saved many lives, they are designed to protect adult male bodies from the impact of a collision. This is why it is important to follow all laws and guidelines when children are riding in the car.

Looking to the Future: Air-Powered Cars

At Southtowne Motors, we’re always considering the future and what new inventions can change the way we drive. Recently, an exciting release about an air-powered car caught our attention, so we’d like to pass on information about this new style of vehicle to you. There are also talks about air fuel synthesis, which is a new and interesting way to create fuel out of, literally, thin air. Although this could take years, it’s always interesting to see what could become common in our lifetimes.

Hybrids have become popular over the recent years, but Peugeot-Citroen, a primarily UK/European manufacturer has suggested that it will be working on a hybrid car that runs on gasoline and air. According to translators, the car would be able to run up to 43 miles per hour and would use hydraulics to keep itself powered up.

It’s no secret that companies have been looking for the newest ways to fuel vehicles, from water-powered styles to those that run on corn oils. Fuel alternatives may seem strange now, but they are likely to be more common in the near future. According to Peugeot-Citroen, they’d like to have this car up and running for sale by 2016.

Peugeot isn’t the only company looking into alternatives, though, and another British company is working on Air Fuel Synthesis. With this process, the fuel we need to drive would literally be made out of air. It is made with a combination technique of electricity and air, and it’s already been used to power a Lotus.

It could take up to 15 years before air fuel takes hold, but it may be the way of the future. As we look for new ways to power vehicles, reduce greenhouse gasses, and take better care of our finite resources, we may be seeing more examples of alternative fuel sources cropping up.

Luckily, with science catch up to the needs of our society, you’re likely to avoid seeing this any time in the future.

GPS And You: What You Need to Know

At Southtown Motors, we know how much you hate getting lost. That’s why we’ve compiled this information on different types of GPS systems that you can use to keep you going in the right direction. Why use a GPS? A GPS can be useful on a vacation, for work, during emergencies, when you’re participating in recreational activities, and anytime you need to know where you’re going. There are so many uses that you can come up with, you’ll end up using your GPS all the time.

You can use a Sat-Nav, or Street Navigation System, which is the most common type. This form of GPS can be built into your car in some cases, or you can purchase one aftermarket. Some are attacked to the dashboard or to your window for easy use. These GPS systems will tell you how to get to a place with step-by-step instructions. You may be able to get US and international maps, and you can also search for places, businesses, and by activity.

Sports GPS systems are also an option. These could be set for marine information, or they could be wristwatches that you can keep on you. The GPS will monitor where you are, so it can keep you moving the right way.

You can also get a GPS on your cell phone. There are many apps available that track your location through the use of the phone’s internal GPS and Internet usage. These systems will have trouble working if you don’t get a signal, though, so be careful when you take them out of the city.

No matter where you’re going or what you want to do, a GPS can help you get there without a struggle. You simply place the address or location into the computer, and it will help you understand the route you need to take. Some are even wise enough to know when there is going to be a problem with traffic.

Atlanta Cars, How Do You Know If You Have A Busted Muffler?

It’s no secret, especially when they pass you, some people love loud cars and go to great lengths to modify their exhaust systems to sound just right. Now this post isn’t about exhaust mods, but if you are into that sort of thing then we suggest you check out the Southtowne GM Superstore for some great aftermarket modification including modifying your exhaust system.

Now, if loud cars aren’t your thing and you didn’t modify your exhaust system, but it sounds like you did, then you may have a muffler problem.  It wasn’t too long ago that this very thing happened to a friend of mine. His car was extremely loud!  It was like it was when he was 18 when he purposefully put holes in his muffler to achieve a louder car sound. I don’t recommend this at all as your muffler is a key part of your car’s exhaust system. Not only does it reduce noise, but it also prevents exhaust fumes from entering into the passenger compartment of a car. If exhaust is entering  your vehicle then you may be faced with even more problems than just a broken muffler. Carbon monoxide from your car can be deadly.  If you suspect you have a broken muffler, here are some things to check out:

  1. Turn your car on and listen for low pitched rhythmic sounds or a rumbling. If you do have a broken muffler it will create a loud exhaust noise.
  2. Inspect your muffler for holes or rust. Rust usually happens from the inside out, and is an indicator that holes are developing.
  3. Look for unusual exhaust smoke. This may be a big cloud when you hit the gas or even a very subtle one.
  4. If you vehicle starts to slowly overheat, this may also be an indication of broken muffler. The exhaust system can affect engine performance.
  5. Check to see if there are any water leaks near the back of the car. This too is an indicator of a hole in the muffler.

If have done the above suggested checks on your vehicle but still are unsure, please schedule an appointment with the service department at the Southtowne GM Superstore to get this taken care of right away. Of course, if you’re are liking the new sound your car is making, first get your muffler fixed first and then let’s talk about what Southtowne can do for a proper exhaust system modification.
