Inside the passenger cabin, the new Terrain’s interior makes a statement and serves as a fundamental component of the vehicle’s heightened emphasis on refinement and functionality. The GMC Sierra 2500 also gets its excellent gas mileage thanks to the transmission, which is designed to handle all of the torque the engine puts out; and helps with an exhaust braking system. If you are in the market for a new heavy duty truck, stop by SouthTowne Motors to test drive the new 2017 GMC Sierra HD. This vehicle features a powerful 6.6-liter V-8 turbo Duramax diesel engine that makes 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque. You’ll have plenty of towing power with this truck. An Allison 1000 Series transmission with overdrive backs up the engine. You’ll get 680 highway miles on a single fill-up.

Excellent Fuel Economy

The GMC Sierra gets its excellent gas mileage thanks to the transmission, which is designed to handle all of the torque the engine puts out; and helps with an exhaust braking system. Additionally, the direct injection technology provides fast starts in cold weather, maximum efficiency, low emissions and lots of power.

Brakes, Suspension and Driver Control

You’ll need some excellent rotors to help stop the GMC HD because of the power this truck puts out. The rotors use ferritic nitrocarburizing technology, exclusively patented by GM. This technology strengthens and hardens the brakes. And the Duralife protects the rotors against corrosion, thus doubling the life of the rotors.

And, the Sierra uses a coil-over-shock front suspension, and, in the rear, 3-inch wide multistage rear leaf springs. The leaf springs help handle heavier loads in the bed or increased tongue weight on the hitch.

Additional features include available hill descent control, standard StabiliTrak for braking and throttle management, an automatic locking rear differential, driver shift control and digital steering assist.

2017 GMC Acadia Named a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick

2016-gmclife-2017-acadia-iihs-top-safety-pick-mh-980x347

Passenger safety is paramount in every vehicle, let alone a family-focused crossover like the new 2017 GMC Acadia. When equipped with the available Driver Alert Package II, the 2017 GMC Acadia is named a “2017 Top Safety Pick” by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

A vehicle earns a 2017 Top Safety Pick designation from the IIHS by receiving “good” ratings in five different crashworthiness tests conducted by the IIHS. These tests include a small overlap front, moderate overlap front, and side-impact collisions, along with roof strength and head restraint tests. Vehicles also need to score at least an “advanced” rating for front crash prevention in order to qualify for the Top Safety Pick designation.

According to the IIHS, the 2017 Acadia received good ratings for all five crashworthiness tests. 2017 Acadia SLT-2 and Acadia Denali models are equipped with the Driver Alert II Package, which incorporates low-speed Front Automatic Braking, Forward Pedestrian Detection, and Forward Collision Alert systems as standard equipment and are part of the front crash prevention system.

From square one, GMC engineers designed the 2017 Acadia to offer driver and passengers alike with ample protection in the case of a collision. The Acadia’s body structure not only incorporates press-hardened, high-strength steels throughout its design, but also new splayed front longitudinal frame rails that flare outward in order to provide an effective structural load path during small overlap frontal collisions.

The 2017 Acadia offers an expansive suite of standard and available safety features through its entire lineup, all designed to help keep occupants safe. Standard equipment includes eight airbag (including head curtain and front side-impact airbags), four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock braking system (ABS), Stabilitrak stability control, and full-function traction control. A rear-view camera is standard on all models.

The Driver Alert Package I, available on the Acadia SLE-2 and standard on Acadia SLT-1 models, adds a number of active safety features, including Side Blind Zone with Lane Change Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Rear Park Assist.

Acadia’s available Driver Alert Package II, which is standard on Acadia SLT-2 and Acadia Denali models, goes a step further, supplementing the Driver Alert Package I features with the following features:

  • Forward Collision Alert, which may help warn the driver when rapidly approaching another detected vehicle and a collision may be imminent
  • Low-speed Front Automatic Braking, which can help reduce the severity or avoid a crash altogether in some situations by applying or enhancing brake effort
  • Front Pedestrian Braking, which can help reduce the severity of a collision with a detected pedestrian ahead or avoid the collision altogether
  • Following Distance Indicator, which warns the driver when following another vehicle too closely
  • Front and Rear Park Assist
  • Lane Keep Assist, which provides gentle steering wheel input and alerts to help prevent drivers from unintentionally drifting out of their intended lane
  • Safety Alert Driver Seat, which can provide haptic warnings to the driver when an alert is triggered
  • Intellibeam automatic headlamps

Acadia Denali models equipped with the optional Technology Package go further yet, adding a Surround Vision Camera system, which provides a bird’s-eye view of Acadia’s exterior. The Technology Package also adds Adaptive Cruise Control, which can alter cruising speed in order to keep a driver selected following distance from traffic; and Forward Automatic Braking which uses forward-facing cameras and radar sensors to detect collisions in some situations, and help reduce the severity or avoid a collision altogether by applying or enhancing brake efforts.

The all-new 2017 Acadia models also offer Rear Seat Reminder, which aims to give parents an extra prompt to check the rear seats for occupants or belongings before exiting the vehicle. Although Rear Seat Reminder does not actually detect passengers or objects placed in the rear seat, it works by monitoring Acadia’s rear doors. If one is opened and closed within ten minutes of the engine starting, or if they are opened and closed while the vehicle is running, Rear Seat Reminder will provide an audible and visual reminder to the driver to check the rear seat, once the engine is switched off. You should always check your rear seat before exiting the vehicle.

XTS Twin Turbo

Cadillac, as everyone knows, means luxury and an innate intuitiveness for innovation. They always work harder to bring you the very best they can in every aspect of the vehicles they design. This being said, they have introduced the newest engine type; the twin turbo. This engine will be added to the 2014 CTS as well as the 2014 XTS which is due out later this year. It may eventually make its way into other GM models such as the Camaro or the ATS-V. But for now, let’s talk more about this engine.

The new 3.6L twin turbo engine has been designed to deliver at least 410 horsepower with 430 pounds of torque. This has not been done previously in a car of this size. They do not have the official number yet, but it is said it will reach 0-60 in around 5 seconds. Not sure what you’re used to driving, but that’s fast.

There is a commercial out right now that just hit the media. This spot shows the new Cadillac XTS Twin Turbo blowing the doors, literally, right off of its competitors. Now, when you drive this sports vehicle, you won’t make cars around you blow apart or anything but you will feel the intense speed and drive this vehicle offers. The symbolism of the car’s power is amazing.

Some of the comparable cars are the Chrysler 300 and the Lincoln MKS. Other rivals include Audi’s A4 and A6, the BMW 3 and 5 series and the Mercedes C-Class. Though there is quite the challenge, the XTS is still Cadillac’s largest sedan which replaced the outdated DTS. Among all of the improvements, the XTS will also be the first model to feature the brand’s infotainment system, CUE.

The power this engine provides has allowed the new XTS to become an all-wheel drive vehicle so it can withstand the force. With the invention of this new engine, the company believes that they will be able to propel a rear-wheel drive version of the next generation CTS from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. This will also give the next CTS a top speed of around 170 mph.

If you’re brave enough to test drive this vehicle for yourself, stop on in at SouthTowne Motors just south of Atlanta. We have a huge selection of new and used Chevrolet cars and trucks as well.
