2014 Silverado and Sierra Deliver

Everyone knows that GMC and Chevrolet deliver the best trucks for heavy duty work and towing. However, there are current reports that they have achieved an even higher standard for their own trucks. Both the GMC Sierra and Sierra Denali 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and High County have been equipped with a 6.2L V8 engine. This option allows these trucks to receive an SAE-certified 420 horsepower with 460 pounds of torque. Unbelievable! This is the most power any light pickup truck has ever seen.

The Silverado LTZ and High Country also have an outstanding ability to tow up to 12,000 pounds when they are equipped properly. The same holds true for the Sierra SLT and Denali models. There is also an optional Max Trailering Package available for certain models. This package includes enhanced cooling, automatic locking rear differential, increased-capacity rear leaf springs, revised shock tuning for increased control and an integrated trailer brake controller.

There will also be two other different engine options available for the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500; the 4.3L V6 and the 5.3L V8. The 4.3L engine will produce 285 horsepower and 305 pounds of torque while the 5.3L will put out slightly more at 355 horsepower and 383 pounds of torque. The smaller of the engines, the 4.3L, will be able to haul up to 7,600 pounds which is still the highest in the division. The larger of the two mentioned options will be able to tow up to 11,500 pounds when correctly fortified.

All three of the above engines feature the direct fuel injection system along with Active Fuel Management and a continuously variable valve timing. All of these things together have not been found in any competitors trucks. There are also energy saving components such as aluminum blocks and cylinder heads. All three engines also switch effortlessly back into four cylinder mode when not towing a large load. The 5.3L engine actually has an estimated fuel economy of 23 mpg highway which is better than even the Ford EcoBoost V6.

When you’re ready to test drive these fabulous trucks, stop on in at your local Newnan car dealer. At SouthTowne Motors, we have everything and more that you are looking for.

Best Vehicles for Tailgating at SouthTowne Motors

The tailgating season is approaching. With football games, NASCAR races, and other popular outdoor sports, the buzz and excitement is heavy in the air. The motions of tailgating are simple: pick up some friends or family, grab some grub from the store, and then park at your stadium destination.

But what if you don’t have an appropriate vehicle for this type of party? No worries! Just stop at your Newnan car dealer for a new Chevy truck before your event.

Chevy Silverado - perfect for football tailgating

We have several tailgating options to choose from. The best selections to go with, naturally, are trucks. Even so, there are a range of other vehicles that don’t typically fit the tailgating mold. For instance, a great car for this is the Chevrolet Traverse 2LT. It can seat up to 8 people and has a large cargo area. Both the second and third row seats can fold down for extra carrying capacity.

The Cadillac Escalade, or the EXT version, are both great vehicles to party with. The EXT is the same great Escalade you have come to love, with all the spacious room and luxurious features. The EXT attached to the name means the rear half is a truck. Very useful for tailgating yet comfortable enough for 8 people to stretch out.

Another great SUV/truck hybrid that is perfect for tailgating is the Chevrolet Avalanche. It can seat up to 6 people happily and boasts over 45 cu feet inside as well as a 98 inch bed. Just think of the possibilities you can do with that much space. Some people have even customized their trucks and SUVs to fit bars and an entertainment system in the bed of their vehicles for such occasions.

Buick enters this list with their Enclave and Rendezvous models. The Enclave seats up to 8 people with both back rows able to collapse for extra storage space. Perfect for hauling all the extra coolers and accessories you might need for your get-together. The Rendezvous is a crossover SUV that was built between 2002 and 2007. They no longer produce these, but, if you can find one, you can customize it and make it one of the best tailgating vehicles around.

Of course, many other options are out there since you can tailgate in almost anything. So, if you want a great tailgating car or truck that your friends will be jealous of, drive just an hour south of Atlanta to Southtowne.

The History of Chevrolet

SouthTowne Motors is your go-to place for the brands you love most: Chevy, Cadillac, Buick, and GMC. These affordable and dependable performance vehicles all have such rich and colorful histories behind them. None, however, have as much drive as Chevrolet. This company has been inventing and producing cars since 1911 and is still going strong today.

Chevrolet was founded by engineer and Swiss race car driver Louis Chevrolet and William Durant, who was also the founder of General Motors. Durant had been ousted from working as management for General Motors in 1910. He then became head of the Buick Motor Company and hired Louis Chevrolet to drive Buick cars in promotional races.

The design concepts for the first automobile, the Series C Classic Six, were drawn up and the first prototype of this vehicle was ready before the company was even incorporated. The bowtie emblem that the company is known for was first used in 1914. The exact origin of the emblem is unknown but some speculate it either originated from wallpaper Durant saw in a French hotel room or that it is based on the logo from the Coalettes coal company. Still, others believe it could be a stylized Swiss cross from the founder’s parents’ homeland.

Trouble ensued in 1915 over design and Chevrolet sold his share of the company to Durant. The company became quite profitable by 1916 and Durant repurchased interest in GM. By 1917 he had become president of General Motors. He merged the two companies together with Chevrolet as a separate division. There were factories for this vastly growing brand all throughout the United States as well as a few in the Canadian division.

This company was known as one of the “Low-priced three” with the other two being Ford and Plymouth. During the 1950s and 1960s, Chevrolet held huge influence on the American market. The Corvette was introduced in 1953 and their first fuel-injected engine hit the streets in 1957. One in every ten cars sold in 1963 was made by Chevrolet.

Impala became the best-selling vehicle in history during the 1960s and 1970s. The basic small block V8 engine design has remained in use since the inception in 1955. In 2010, they introduced the Volt which is a fully electric car. Since then, it has been awarded the North American Car of the Year as well as World Green Car of the Year in 2012.

Chevy continues their growth with innovative and fuel-efficient cars, trucks, and SUVs. If you’re looking for one of these amazing vehicles, come see us at our Newnan Chevy dealership today.

Editors at Ward’sAuto, a popular place to get your auto information, have named the 2013 Cadillac XTS and Chevy Spark among the list of the 10 best interiors of 2013, a high percentage of the 9 GM models sent for review. These cars were picked from a field of new, or possibly old, nominees. There were 46 nominees in total.

The ratings are based on the editors’ ratings of fit-and-finish, the materials used inside the vehicles, the ergonomics of the seats and controls, the comfort level expected for anyone in the car, from the driver to small passengers, the overall value of the vehicle, the connectivity to popular and necessary devices, and safety standards. The user-friendliness of the vehicles is also a major point that is discussed among the editors, as no car is worth its weight unless a person is able to easily use it.

GM had 9 vehicles placed in the 46 entires, which is more than any other automaker. The Cadillac XTS was one of two General Motors (GM) products to be chosen for the top 10. The Chevy Spark was the second choice of the 10.

The Dangers Of Atlanta Railroad Crossings

You may not have ever considered it, but many drivers in Atlanta have, and that’s tempting fate by crossing train tracks as a train is barreling down the tracks. Your Atlanta GM dealer, the Southtowne General Motors Superstore wants to remind you that crossing barriers to avoid waiting for a train to pass is dumb and illegal. You not only put yourself in the path of extreme danger, but you are endangering those who are actually abiding by the law and waiting for the train to pass as well as the engineer of the train.

You might be thinking, “do people really go around railroad barriers”? The simple answer is absolutely they do. In fact, I’m surprised that we don’t have more incidents involving fatal interactions between car and train.

Of course, not all railroad crossings are clearly marked with guard gates or lights, there are some in rural areas that are simply marked with the standard railroad “X”. As you’ll see in the video below, even when driving in a familiar area and crossing a well known railroad intersection can still be extremely dangerous.

The following statistics were provided by

According to the US Department of Transportation there are about 5,800 vehicle train crashes each year in the United States-usually at Railroad crossings. These accidents kill 600 people and injure about 2,300. More than 50% of all railroad fatal accidents occur at crossings with passive, or inadequate safety devices (often none at all!). During daylight about 75% of car train collisions involve the train hitting the car, while at night about 50% of the time the car runs into the train!

The bottom line is that you should never, ever cross railroad tracks when the guard arms have been lowered. Even further, you should always expect the unexpected when crossing at any train intersection.

As always, the Southtowne General Motors Superstore just wants you to use your head when you are on the road. Don’t take any chances with your life and try to beat any on-coming train. It’s just common sense, folks.

At your Atlanta are GM dealer, the Southtowne General Motors Superstore we know the benefits Sure you are thinking, “Man, those things are a pain to put up and even more of a pain to store”. At least that’s what I thought until last Saturday after a round of golf. I’m not kidding, my Atlanta Cadillac was 10,000* and my seats were twice as hot. As I instantly start dehydrating, waiting for what seemed like an eternity, I remembered seeing my windshield shade in my trunk when I was putting in my clubs. Boy, a lot of good it does me there.

So the question isn’t, “Do windshield shades work”? We all know the do. It’s “How well do they work”? As in, “how much heat can they cut down inside my car”? So, I did a little research and this is what I found…get ready for the science!

So you see, not only does a sunshade keep your car cool, but it helps maintain the integrity and good looks of your dashboard and seats as well. There are some sunshades out there that can reflect up to 97% of the Sun’s damaging rays. Of course that doesn’t mean that stepping into your car will be like taking a seat in your refrigerator, but it will certainly keep it much cool than if you didn’t use one.

At your Atlanta car dealer, the Southtowne General Motors Superstore, out parts department had a decent selection of sunshades designed to it your Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet or GMC…Swing by and take a look, before it gets really hot out there.
