Tips to Make Thanksgiving Easier

Hosting a Thanksgiving get-together can be overwhelming, especially when you’re the one that’s hosting it. Use these simple tips for throwing the perfect Thanksgiving celebration in your home this year for your friends and family.

1. Plan Ahead

Thanksgiving’s position after Halloween and before Christmas means the holiday seems to appear out of nowhere. Decide which dishes you’ll be making ahead of time, so you can start the process of gathering all of the supplies you’ll need.

2. Start Cooking Early

You don’t have to wait until Thanksgiving Day to start the cooking process. Prepare your sides the day before Thanksgiving, so you just have to pop them in the oven when your guests arrive.

3. Try Something New

Use your station as the host as a chance to try something new. Consider deep-frying your turkey outside instead of roasting it indoors.

4. Find Decorations at the Campsite

Use sticks, leaves, pine cones and pine needles from around the campsite for festive and free table decorations.

5. Consider Buying Your Desserts

Shop at a local bakery for delectable Thanksgiving desserts that your friends will love just as much as the homemade versions.

6. Create Fun Placecards

Placecards are a fun part of every festivity, but you can make them even more enjoyable by printing out funny Facebook photos of your friends instead.

7. Label Your Dishes

Make your party welcoming for your friends with dietary restrictions by labeling your dishes with their name and what’s inside.

8. Don’t Forget the Kids’ Table

Creating a fun kids’ table will ensure your little guests stay occupied, so the adults can have more fun. Cover the kids’ table with craft paper and give them plenty of crayons to decorate it as they please.

Tips For Staying Alert On The Road

Southtowne_03

There is no doubt that road trips are enjoyable, at least the first few hours before fatigue begins to set in. Maintaining your awareness is crucial, especially on long road trips. Studies have shown that a drowsy driver is just as dangerous as a drunk driver. Falling asleep while driving contributes to 10% of all road accidents, which result in as many as 300 deaths and multiple injuries each year. Don’t endanger yourself and others.

SouthTowne Motors has a few tips to avoid this.

If you’re tired, don’t fight it.

This is almost always the best option if you’re feeling yourself nodding off. There is no shame in pulling over to rest. This can be the most important thing you can do when driving for extended periods of time. Research has proven that even if you take a cat nap for less than an hour, your body receives vital rest it needs to help you stay alert and awake long into the night. So pull that Chevy over and take a 30 minute power nap.

Crank up the music.

Music will affect your mood and energy level. Put together a lively playlist for the road. Add your favorite hits that you love to sing along with. Studies have shown that music with fast and upbeat rhythms and high frequencies work best. Choose a lot of energetic and lively music to boost your feeling of alertness. This is your chance to really rock out on your road trip!

Cold air.

This can be very effective in cooler weather or you can also turn on your car’s AC. Cold air shocks your senses giving you a temporary jolt which makes your body more alert. As most people know, warm air only enhances drowsiness.

Stretch.

Get the blood flowing and the heart rate up by pulling over and doing some quick exercises. Anything works. You can do a little jog around the car or even a few jumping jacks. Anything that accelerates your heart rate will invigorate you and keep you awake.

Keep your taste buds alert.

Eating tangy or tart fruits can wake up the taste buds and the mind. You can even suck on sour candies for this affect. Carrots can also be affective due to the extra effort and time it takes to chew them.

A jolt of caffeine can help.

A cup of coffee or a coke can help boost your alertness. Grabbing one can also give you an excuse to get out of the car and move around.

The next time you feel yourself feeling a bit drowsy, remember these effective ways to rejuvenate yourself. From your Newnan car dealer, drive safe!

Items You Should Have in Your Car to be Ready for Any Situation

9967940650

You should have an emergency kit in your vehicle during all seasons so you are ready for any situation. This means more than a small first aid kit. As a matter of fact, the smaller first aid kits are not enough – you should have a larger kit with supplies to handle most minor emergencies including stitches. Even if you just bought a new vehicle from SouthTowne Motors or had your vehicle serviced and feel confident that it won’t break down, you should have emergency supplies. You never know when someone could cause an accident involving you.

First Aid Kit

The first aid kit should have several different sized bandages, bandage tape, an Ace bandage, antibacterial cream, eyewash, a needle and thread, safety pins, glue, tweezers, burn cream, alcohol pads, cotton balls and wipes at a minimum. Add a clean towel and washcloth or a couple of smaller towels so you can clean wounds or use them as compresses to stop bleeding.

Extra Clothing

In the winter, you should have extra coats, gloves and hats for everyone. During all seasons, you should have blankets for everyone, though it is more important to have them during the cooler months in the event you get stranded and help isn’t near by. You’ll eventually run out of gas and the extra blankets and jackets will help keep everyone warm.

Food

Always keep high energy, non-perishable food in the vehicle. Granola bars, chocolate bars in the winter, trail mix or anything else that won’t go bad for a month or so in the vehicle should be packed. Rotate the food stores every month or two, depending on what you are keeping. You should also keep enough bottled water so that each person has two bottles in the vehicle. Rotate the water every month so that it stays fresh.

Other Items

Keep a fire starting kit in your vehicle. Don’t rely on a lighter or matches as those can get wet. If you do get stranded in the woods, you’ll be able to make a fire for warmth or to signal for help. If you often travel in uninhabited places, a tarp to use as protection and to keep things dry will also be handy. A knife will always be handy — just be sure it’s a good, sharp knife.

Stop by SouthTowne Motors

Call or stop by SouthTowne Motors to make a service appointment for your vehicle so that you lessen the chances of being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Cadillac’s ELR

Cadillac is introducing a new, state-of-the-art coupe which is their version of a hybrid vehicle. If you have always wanted an eco-friendly car with a luxurious style, the wait is over. The new Cadillac ELR is just the ticket to great mileage, a reduced environmental footprint and fantastic flair. This beautifully crafted vessel has an advanced electronic drive system and an onboard generator which has Art and Science balanced perfectly.

As far as the luxury goes with this car, the accents and features are stunning. The aerodynamics of this two-door beauty allow for little resistance while remaining sleek. The design includes jeweled tail-lamps that are engineered to enhance the aerodynamics as well as adding to the look and feel of the car. Even the headlights have been designed to showcase the vertical light-blade technology projected by LEDs. The door handles have also nearly been hidden due to the recessed design giving it a smooth and unbroken appearance. Just touching the inside of the handle opens the door.

The interior of the vehicle is just as lavish with the use of varied materials in every inch of the car. There is a harmonious balance of either Olive Ash or Laurel wood, carbon fiber, premium leather, suede microfiber and satin chrome accents. Auto-heated seats is another useful feature that the ELR will activate when the weather is cold outside. Other technology features include mood-setting lighting, automatic cupholders and a customizable instrument panel.

Of course, the biggest centerpiece to this newly designed work of art is the advanced electric drive system which lets you travel worry-free and with little gasoline. This system gives the ELR the power to regenerate the battery on demand while giving you the power when you need it. The charging time varies from 12.5 hours to 18 hours using a standard 120V supply. You can use a 240V power supply which will fully charge the battery in five hours or less. There are also four different drive modes to provide exactly the type of power you need.

Features such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Safety Alert Seats are just part of what sets this amazing vehicle apart from the rest. This exciting new coupe will be available soon at your Newnan Cadillac dealer.
