The 2017 Silverado HD

When you want a truck with a steel bed that will get that work done for you without denting, cracking or getting big holes in it, and a truck that can haul all you need to haul, the 2017 Silverado HD is the answer.

The New Hood and Intake

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado HD comes with the optional 6.7-liter Duramax turbocharged diesel engine that takes advantage of a new hood and intake system to increase horsepower and torque. This engine makes 425 horse power and 800 pound-feet of torque, which gives it exceptional towing capacity.

The new hood and intake system dumps cooler air into the engine and Chevrolet has patented it because it has a way to remove moisture from the air. Cool dry air is always something engines could use more of to increase combustion. And, the more combustion you have, the more horsepower you’ll get.

How it Works

Once the hood scoop scoops up the air, it goes through an expansion chamber and then past a 180-degree turn into the intake manifold. The turn causes the velocity to change, thus “flinging” water molecules from the air with the centrifugal force of the turn. The water is then collected and drained via a valve. The drier air removes the downside of introducing ambient air into the intake manifold.

The new intake system allows air to enter the engine in two ways – through the hood and through another intake in one of the fenders. That way, if the hood intake is blocked, air can get in through the other intake in the fender. In addition to increasing the horsepower and torque production, the engine will run cooler.
